Happy Valentine's Day, Kinda!

We woke up to quite a surprise on Valentine's morning;SNOW! We heard it was going to snow a little over night but as the always say here "no accumulation", but they were wrong. We had a few inches of snow and went for a nice long Winter/Valentine's day walk. We saw some pretty things and enjoyed spending the morning together before we headed off to work.

We made reservations for dinner at 7 pm at Vinny's La Roma just around the block from our house for the big night! We didn't get too dressed up but cleaned up well for our big date! We arrived right on time and were seated right away. The hostess put one menu down between us. We are both pretty frugle but Jamie is a league above me. The Menu was for Valentine's Day only and had a few selections that looked pretty good. Jamie looked at the price immediately $79.99 per couple. WOW! We planned on spending 50-60 bucks including tip tops! We need an exit plan so we came up with an excuse that I recieved a call and we needed to leave. Another couple followed our lead, thier excuse wasn't as good as ours though! They said they were in a hurry, LAME!

We got in the car and headed south as we talked about our next move. We thought of a few different places, made some calls and figured out that we would almost have to wait until 9 o'clock to eat if we went anywhere to popular. (We talked about our experience one V-Day at the Outback when we didn't eat until around 11pm, didn't want that again!) We landed on Unos Chicago Grill and only had to wait 30 minutes and we though that was pretty good! Our waiter was a little bizarre but he was competent enough to get Jamie's water with lemon and my Iced Tea no lemon within a few minutes. We figured we would order one of our favorite appetizers since it was a special occasion the Shrimp and Crab Fondue. He came back a few minutes later to get our order. I ordered a steak and Jamie ordered a chicken pasta dish. After a half an hour and now Fondue he showed up with my salad and an excuse, blaming the kitchen for the fondue's absence. We finally got it and it was pretty good. The guy would go away for sereral minutes on end and we could tell the other couple near us was getting as frustrated with thier experience as we were. Our meals finally came out and Jamie's was good but mine was bleeding, it even mooed once. I like it medium-well and this steak looked like they gutted it, cooked the outside and stuffed the inside back in after the outside was brown. I have a policy after working in a restraunt, seeing the movie Waiting and hearing horror stories never to send back a meal to the kitchen. So we got a box and I will finish cooking my meal at a later date! We got our check and got out (by the way the "10 ounce steak appeared to be no more than 7 ounces and it was a $19 STEAK!!).

We made it home watched Father of the Bride and checked in for the night. We live in the heart of Salisbury University off campus housing and have had very few disruptions believe it or not but V-Day 2008 was a little different! Our neighbors decided to have a party. The party wasn't too bad, it was the people coming and going that were loud and woke us up a bunch of times. Our house is on a corner and about 10 inches from the street!
It was a little ironic that before we left for the evening I read Chris and Mindy's (brother and sister in-law) blog on how miserable thier V-Day was. I thought wow, Jamie and I have it made: no sick, crying kids that need diaper changes, and constant attention. I thought we get to go out and have great evening, just the two of us! WRONG! Oh well at least its Friday!! Hope everone is well and your Valentine's Day wasn't as bad as ours.

I didn't know you were at Salisbury, Randy -- my husband just applied for a job there in the geography dept. Small world. :)

If you'd eaten that steak, you might have spent Valentine's Day holding a barf bucket.

I thought La Roma's was a pizza joint? Guess not.

I'll eat that steak for you. When they ask how I'd like it cooked, I usually say "warm."

try something different, go out on any night BUT Valentine's Day night. That's what we do. Also, for the tightwads, share a meal, and get an extra salad.
