A Kansas Girl with an Eastern Shore Dish

It's no secret that making the adjustment from the Midwest to the east coast has been no "Piece of Cake" for our Kansas Sunflower but we may have reached a milestone this past weekend. Jamie decided to put on the apron and try the most popular Maryland-eastern shore dish. No it wasn't Scrapple (Google it our Midwest friends), Fried Chicken, Crab cakes or any other delicious dinner treat. She may have conquered the granddaddy of them all when it comes to dessert a Smith Island Cake! Now this is one of the most time consuming, incredibly yummy desserts in history. Think of this, eight layers of yellow cake with chocolate and peanut butter in between! We had a great reviews, thanks Dad Steve, Aunt Marge and Uncle Joe and Randy's friend Bill. It was perfection!!

I don't think it is the healthiest snack but certainly worth the calories!!! I see a new posibility in the works: Kansas Kakes by Jamie!! Too bad this would blow Kansas' mind!!!!

It Was a Birthday to Remember!

We celebrated Jamie's 28th Birthday on Wednesday, January 23rd! I gave her a quick "on air" wish early in the morning, so early she missed it! Here she is holding a red rose and the card that I gave her.

Here is the story about the rose: I went to Jean and Ken's Flower Shop on my way home and should have know better when there was a sign on the front door that said don't let the cats in when entering! After picking the perfect rose I stood at the counter and waited to check out. You know those moments in life that you think should be in a movie. This was about to happen. Cats were all over the place and one was starring right into my eyes, time seemed to freeze and I kid you not Lionel Richie's Endless Love was playing on the radio and we shared this moment. Then the cat tried to rub up on me but I quickly moved away paid and got out of there! That was the weirdest few moments of my day!

The card was pretty funny too, it was one of those that plays sounds. It was Lili Von Shtupp from Blazing Saddles and it said "Ohh a wed wose, how womantic". We have had several laughs every time we open it! The writing said on the front: A single red rose traditionally means I love you, on the inside: But in this case it means I love you and You're Smokin' hot!, Happy Birthday to a women with lots of Blaze in Her Saddle!

Here is a picture of her old phone and her new one! Jamie had never had a "new" phone before, she always had hand me down phones so this was a big deal! We had it all planned that this would be the only gift for her birthday but after our credit and a mail-in rebate it only cost three dollars! So she also got a phone case, and some lotion to make up the difference. She got some other great gifts from friends and family and is very thankful! I love being able to joke about her being two years older than me, but that will only last for a few more months until late May! Oh and she can receive pictures and texts on her new Chocolate LG!!!

We went to Plaza Tapatia and shared Fajitas for her birthday dinner. Since it was Wednesday night we headed to Church afterword and Jamie helped teach the 5th grade Caravan class. We were excited to find out later in the night that our nephew William Stephen Scott was born! The only thing was that it was the 24th on German time and that is his official birthday not the 23rd so he just missed Aunt Jamie's Birthday by four hours and five minutes.

Back to the Grind!

Well 2008 is really here and we are back to 'normalcy' in our lives. Everyone is back at work and things are feeling a little more normal after the holidays. Randy's mom Judy is visiting his brother Chris, his wife Mindy and Luke in Germany. We are anticipating the birth of a niece or nephew any day now and Judy is there to help out with everything! Our Uncle Brian went along to Germany too. We wish we could be around when the baby arrives but you can't do it all!

We have been able to go on a lot of dates lately and enjoy getting out and about. We have eaten at some really cool places and checked out the movie "Juno" the other night. It was pretty good. We gave it a pretty good review! We rarely like the same movies but we were happy with this choice. It will probably win a few awards if they ever have any award shows this year!

We have also started our small group at our house for church. We had more than one person this week! We are excited to see what God has in store for us over the next six weeks!

Randy is really excited because tonight two of his favorite shows collide! Elizabeth Berkley will appear on CSI:Miami tonight as Horacio's ex gal and the mother of his son. (The kids say Baby Mama) Berkley play Jessica Myrtle Spano on Saved by the Bell. He just wished that, Slater, Zach, Kelly, Lisa, Screech and Mr Belding will follow soon!

Oh yeah and we enjoyed some Chipotle burritos tonight for dinner! Gotta give a big thanks to our friend Carolyn for picking those up in Annapolis yesterday!!

Still no word on our niece/nephew but we will update as soon as we know!!

Goodbye 2007, Hello 2008!

We just returned from our trip to Jamie's hometown of Olathe, KS and have welcomed in a new year.!We are extremely excited about 2008! 2007 had it's ups and some very low downs! God has been faithful through a difficult year. We lost both of Randy's grandparents, Doris and John Scott. They were great people and tremendous Christ-like examples. We know they are rejoicing in heaven and we will see them again one day. We will also see our cousin Karlee who tragically passed away in August. She was only 14, and had an unknown heart condition. This was a trying a time for our family. Please remember Uncle Brian, Patty and Chelsea in your prayers in '08.

We also have many things to be thankful for as well. Jamie has adjusted well to east coast living and enjoys her jobs at Atlantic-Bay Homes, Macy's and a girls soccer coach. Randy continues his work at Clear Channel Radio and for the Shorebirds into 2008. We are thankful for our jobs and ability to provide for each other and enjoy our time together in our home. We are also thankful for our faith and our family, we couldn't live without either!

We look forward to this new year like everyone does! We will have the normal resolutions but are committing to continue improving our relationship with each other and with God. We are excited that we will be Aunt Jamie and Uncle Randy to another child, for our commitment to our health and wellness, for a few mini-vacations, and for getting together with our friends and family as many times as we can. Here's to a great '08!Happy New Year!
